Quake and its Champions: "the pros have embraced it"

id's Tim Willits on how they've balanced the characterful shooter.
Mike Holmes 14 septembre 2017

At this year's QuakeCon we caught up with id's Tim Willits, who joined us to talk about Quake Champions, as well as the Quake World Champions (which was won by team 2z, with 2z's 19-year-old Nikita "Clawz" Marchinsky also winning solo honours) and esports in general. However, with so many champions to pick from in the PC-only shooter, we wondered how they've approached balance:

"If you remember last year the big issue was: will the champion abilities make the game unbalanced? But as you look at the pro players, and you watch the stream and you see what people are picking, there is no one game. There is no one selection of champions that everyone plays.

"The champions have obviously done what we set out to do, added that level of depth and strategy that we needed. And the pros have embraced it, and they're playing different champions and it's been great."

Check out the full interview below for Tim's wishlist of Bethesda characters that he'd like to see appear in Quake Champions.
