After previously having been delayed from May to July of this year, the League of Legends mid-season invitational esports event (MSI) has officially been cancelled, as announced by Riot Games' Global Head of Esports John Needham in a recent post on the League of Legends esports website.

Needham states that while the team has been working to make the best out of the current situation in regards to the worldwide coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the decision was made to cancel the event altogether due to the fact of the global spread/impact and the restrictions linked to the virus are unlikely to subside in time for the event's planned starting date.

"We believe this decision was necessary to ensure the health and safety of the players, teams, crew, partners, media, and fans", Needham stated in the post, before explaining that the team now gets to dedicate its time and resources to Worlds 2020. It will seemingly be a grand event "We are totally committed to delivering the biggest spectacle we've ever produced in China to celebrate our sport's 10-year anniversary. While we must remain nimble with our plans, we are eager to celebrate everything that we love about League of Legends with a memorable Worlds 2020".
