Street Fighter V is undoubtedly one of the biggest games not only in the fighting game community (FGC), but also in esports as a whole, and now a recent message from Capcom CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto has talked about how esports will grow in Japan this year on the back of Street Fighter's success as a franchise.

Tsujimoto begins by saying that esports competitions have been a big discussion already in Japan, what with esports being included at the 2022 Asian Games and considered for attendance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and that due to this rise of esports and the building of the Street Fighter brand outside of Japan, Capcom is now "committed to laying down the foundation to make this year "esports Year One" within Japan. Drawing upon the markets we have already developed in the U.S. and Europe, we will move forward to promote esports with the full force of our organization."

It's worth noting that just recently the Evo fighting game event (the biggest in the world) held its first instalment in Japan as well, which was received positively, so that bodes well for Capcom's future in esports. Do you think that this is a good plan from Capcom?
