Call of Duty XP the most viewed CoD Esports Event in history

Peak viewership for championship tops previous mark by over 40%.

The conclusion to Call of Duty XP and the Call of Duty World Championship was the most viewed esports event in Call of Duty history, Activision have revealed.

The event, the final of which saw Team EnVyUs beat Splyce to win their share of $2 million USD, was broadcast across five languages and peak concurrent viewership bested the previous record by more than 40%. Combined, the Call of Duty Championship matches garnered more than 20 million views.

"Sunday's finals were the perfect conclusion to the biggest fan celebration in our history with Call of Duty XP and to the debut season of the CWL," said EVP and GM of Call of Duty Rob Kostich. "With over 1,000 teams participating from all over the globe, it came down to the final two elite squads, one from North America and one from Europe. It was an epic, raucous finale that capped an incredible weekend of action that was watched around the world by millions. We cannot thank the Call of Duty community enough for their support, it has been incredible all year long."

The competition was held in front of a sold-out audience of thousands as well as being shown globally by Twitch, MLG.TV, YouTube and in-game via Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on PS4. According to Activision over 40% of the viewing audience was from Europe. They also announced that overall a staggering 1.1 billion minutes of content have been viewed across 100 million tune-ins.

Call of Duty XP in LA also saw the most engagements online in the franchise's history.
